Different nitrogen fractions, total volatile fatty acids concentration, rumen volume and flow rate ef digests were esudied in rumen fistulated male euffalo calves sed dice straw ad lib and concentrate at four different levels of maintenance requirement nil (T1), 30%(T2), 70% (T3), and 100% (T4). Ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen contents in SRL were significantly higher (P<0.01) in treatments T2, T3, and T4 as compared to treatment T1. TCA pptable nitrogen contents were found significantly higher (P< 0.01) in treatment T4 as compared to treatment T1, T2 and T3. Total volatile fatty acid (mM/L) was also found significantly higher (P<0.01) in treatments T2, T3, and T4 as compared to treatment T1. Rumen volume and flow rate of digesta was not found significantly different between treatments T1, T2, T3 and T4. Rumen volume ranged from 9.65—10.20 per cent of body weight in all the four treatments.
