Performance of Broilers Influenced by Incorporating Mango (Mangifera Indica) Fruit Pulp Waste (MFPW) in their Rations*

Abstract

Mango fruit pulp waste (MFPW) was incorporated replacing maize at 0 (T1), 5 (T2), 10 (T3) and 15 per cent (T4) on w/w basis and in isonitrogenous and isocaloric rations for broilers to study their performance and carcass characteristics. One hundred and eighty Vencob day old males were used for the study. The dried MFPW contained CP, 3.9; CF, 10.6; NFE, 80 and starch 67.5 per cent. Its ME content was 3164 Kcal/Kg and tannic acid content was 0.12g/kg. Inclusion of MFPW in the rations did not affect the feed intake or growth rate in experimental groups. Higher feed intake and body weight gains without affecting FCR or PER in T2-T4 fed broiler birds was observed as compared to T ration in finished phase. The cost/Kg gain in w/w replacement experiment were Rs. 18.21, 19.77, 17.78 and 17.43 respectively for birds fed T1 -T4 rations. In experiment 11. when isonitrogenous and isocaloric rations were fed to birds, the weight gains were higher by 0.06, 0.07, 0.05 and 0.01 kg with lower feed intake of 0.05, 0.25, 0.27 and 0.28 kg for T1 -T4 rations, respectively as compared to w/w replacement study. There were no differences in carcass characteristics among the treatments. Inclusion of MFPW at 15 per cent replacing maize was economical and did not have any adverse effects. Inclusion of MFPW in isonitrogenous and isocaloric rations is more advantageous over w/w replacement of maize.
