In sacco degradability of few agro-industrial byproducts

Abstract

Vilayati babul pods (Prosopis juliflora), babul pods (Acacia nilotica), mango seed kernel (Mangifera indica), salseed meal (Shorea robusta) and mahua seed cake (Madhuca indica) were evaluated for their nutritional worth. CP content (%) was highest in mahua seed cake (18.83) followed by sal seed meal (14.00), babul pods (13.15), vilayati babul pods (12.25) and mango seed kernel (7.60). NDF content (%) was highest in vilayati babul pods followed by mahua seed cake (49.61), sal seed meal (37.97), babul pods (30.40) and mango seed kernel (25.15). Total phenol and tannin content was highest (P<0.01) in babul pods (BP) followed by mango seed kernel (MSK), sal seed meal (SSM), mahua seed cake (MSC) and vilayati babul pods (VBP). Potential degradability of protein was highest in VBP (83.99%) and lowest in MSK (24.83%) showing highest effective degradability (63.50%) while lowest in MSC (24.50%). The UDP content was highest in MSC and lowest in MSK. In sacco DM and OM degradability was highest in BP and VBP. Effective degradability of OM was highest in BP followed by MSK, VBP, MSC and SSM. It was inferred that mango seed kernel, babul pods and vilayati babul pods could be used as a source of energy and mahua seed cake and sal seed meal as a medium level of bypass protein.
