Abstract

Surti buffalo heifers (18), 23 months old of 164 kg body weight were fed isonitrogenous concentrate mixtures containing either 0, 30 or 60% boiled cottonseed for 120 days, to assess its effect on nutrient utilization and growth performance. The daily intake of dry matter and that of other nutrients was comparable in all the groups. Digestibility of DM, OM and that of CP was higher (P<0.05) in heifers fed cotton seed. It maybe inferred, that cotton seed may be fed at 30 or 60% in concentrate mixture, for optimum growth rate and nutrient utilization in growing buffalo heifers.
