Nutritional evaluation of urea treated millet stalks in rams

Nali rams (8) were randomly divided into two groups of four each and were fed untreated jowar and bajra stalks stalks followed by 4% urea treated respective stalks. The palatability score and digestibility of nutrients were significantly (P < 0.01) higher in urea treated stalks. The digestibility of DM, EE, NFE, NDF and hemicellulose was significantly (P<0.05) higher in bajra stalks than jowar stalks. The DCP and TDN content of stalks were improved significantly (P < 0.05) by urea treatment, these values for jowar and bajra stalks were 10.8 and 46.6% and 6.1 and 49.9% respectively. It was concluded that nutritive value of millet stalks could be improved by urea treatment.
