Studies were conducted on 30 indigenous growing piglets of 2 to 2 1/2 months of age, divided into three equal groups. Animals were fed either standard concentrate (T1), mania grains replaced maize grains in the control diet (T2) or control diet supplemented with 50% of additional zinc sulphate (T3). The marua grains contained 9.8% CP, 2.0% EE, 4.6% CF, 80.2% NFE, 3.3% total ash, 0.6% Ca and 0.4% P. The intake of nutrients, their digestibility and feed gain ratio in the three groups did not differ significantly. It was concluded that maize grains can be completely replaced by marua grains in the ration of pigs and the feeding can be economized by 21%.
