Processing and evaluation of poultry droppings in broiler production

Abstract

The study was conducted to see the effect of processed poultry droppings on the performance of broilers. Sun dried caged layer poultry droppings (PD) moistened to 50% were inoculated with either Aspergillus sp. (AP-1), Trichoderma reesei (TR) 9123 or 9414 strains of fungi @ 0.5% (w/w) and incubated at 30°C for 10 days. The inoculation of PD with fungi reduced the uric acid content from 7.8 to 1.7%. 120, week old broilers were divided into twelve groups often birds each. A basal diet and five experimental diets containing 30 parts of either type of PD and 70 parts of basal diet were offered for 4 weeks. The utilization of DM, OM, NFE and availability of ME were depressed (P<0.05) where as the CF digestibility was improved (P<0.05) in all the diets containing PD as compared to those fed control diet. The poor utilization of nutrients in PD containing diets resulted in low (P<0.05) gain in weight as compared to control diet. The low gain in weight and higher feed consumption in experimental groups resulted in poor (P<0.05) feed conversion ratio. However, dressing percent was not influenced by type of diet. It was concluded that the processed PD should not be incorporated in the broiler ration at 30% level.
