Nutritive evaluation of soybean straw in sheep and goats

The study was take up to assess the nutritive value of soybean straw in sheep and goats. Six females each of Sonadi sheep and Devgarhi goats were offered ad lib soybean straw as a sole feed for 50 days. The soybean straw contained 92.4, 10.4, 1.6 and 39.3% OM, CP, EE and CF, respectively. The DM, DCP and TDN intake, digestibility of nutrients (except CF), mean retention time and nutritive value were significantly (P<0.01) higher in sheep as compared to goats. The DCP and TDN content of soybean straw was 7.4 and 63.6% for sheep and 7.2 and 64.1% for goats. It was concluded that sheep utilized the nutrients from soybean straw better than goats and the straw could meet the basal requirements of both the species.
