Performance of broilers fed on mixed tree leaves meal

Mixed tree leaves meal (Artocarpus heterophyllus, Trema orientalis, Macaranga peltata and Musa sylvatica) was fed to broiler at 0, 5, 10 and 15% level of the diet replacing standard broiler ration. The diets were fed ad lib to each group containing 15 unsexed commercial broiler chicks from 0 to 5 weeks of age. There was no significant effect on feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and haematobiochemical parameters when the tree leaves meal cocktail (TMLC) was supplemented upto 5% level. Moreover blood glucose, total protein, total globulin and cholesterol were increased where as cost per unit gain was reduced in diet containing 5% TLMC compared to control. It was concluded that TLMC could be included in broiler starter ration up to a level of 5% from day old to 5 weeks of age to economize the broiler production.
