Abstract

Muzaffarnagari lambs (18; around 10 d old of 6.37 kg BW) divided into 3 equal groups were fed control diet (C), control diet supplemented with Sporolac (Lactobacilli) @ 0.015xl08spores/kg BW (S1), control diet supplemented with Sporolac (Lactobacilli) @ 0.030x108 spores/kg BW (S2). All the lambs were maintained under standard farm management conditions. They were allowed to suckle with their respective mothers twice a day up to 90 d of age, then the lambs were weaned and fed the concentrate mixture, gram bhusa and green fodder until they attained 180 days of age. The intake of DCP, TDN and digestibility of nutrients were comparable in all the three groups. The pH of SRL was significantly (P<0.01) high due to Lactobacilli feeding. The total N and NH - N were significantly (P<0.05) low due to Lactobacilli feeding. The daily gain in weight, feed conversion efficiency and the greasy fleece yield were comparable in all the groups. It was concluded that Lactobacilli supplementation did not have any beneficial effect on the performance of lambs.
