Effect of yeast culture on the performance of broilers

A 42 day trial was conducted to study the effect of yeast culture on the performance of broiler chicks. Vencob broiler chicks (96; day old) divided into 3 equal groups (4 replicates, each containing 8 birds) were offered either the basal diet (B), B supplemented with yeast culture at 0.1% (YC₁) or 0.2% (YC₂) for 42 days in battery cages in a completely randomized design. The weight gain increased by 4.3% with 2.8% less feed conversion ratio in YC₁ as compared to diet B. Blood biochemical profile was comparable in all the diets. Antibody titre and cutaneous basophilic hypersenstivity (CBH) response was significantly higher in diet YC₁ compared to control diet. Adding yeast culture at 0.2% level had no advantage. The weights of all vital organs were comparable in all the diets. The vital organs has no gross lesions and no abnormalities in histopathological studies. The results indicated that supplementation of yeast culture at 0.1% level increased the body weights considerably and improved the immunity response in broiler chicks.
