Abstract

Complete diets were formulated with yeast culture supplemented @ 0.1 per cent level (R1) or without yeast culture (R2) and processed into mash form. These two rations were compared with a conventional ration (R3) containing green maize fodder, chopped sorghum straw and concentrate mixture fed separately. Twelve lactating Murrah buffaloes divided in 3 groups of 4 in each were fed on above three rations. The DM intake was similar on these rations. The digestibility coefficients of all nutrients except CP and EE were unaffected among the rations. CP and EE digestibilities were significantly (P<0.01) higher on complete diets. The DCP content of complete diets were significantly (P<0.05) higher than conventional ration. Milk yield and composition were similar in all diets. It was concluded that supplementation of diet with yeast culture did not have any impact on the quality or quantity of milk produced.
