Abstract

This study examined the effect of feeding mannanoligosaccharide on immune status of buffalo calves. Buffalo calves (8; 15–60 d old of 45.7±4.6 kg BW) divided into two equal groups were fed either basal production diet or basal diet supplemented with Bio-Mos (mannan oligosaccharide) @ 4g/d for 60 days. Total proteins, total immunoglobulins, circulating immune complexes, albumin and γ globulins increased (P<0.01) by 27.3, 47.3, 43.2, 14.5 and 176% respectively, in blood serum of Bio-Mos supplemented group over that of control group. Total leucocyte count and lymphocyte count in the blood also increased (P<0.01) in the Bio-Mos group. The results indicated that daily supplementation of 4g Bio-Mos to the diet of buffalo calves improved their immune status.
