Abstract

The study was taken up to see the effect of charcoal on the organo chlorine pesticide residues (OCPR) in milk. The accumulation factors of OCPR in milk for BHC, DDT, endosulfan, heptachlor and aldrin were 0.125, 0.125, 0.097, 0.347 and 0.085. The transfer coefficients in milk were 20.79 and 10.54 in control and charcoal groups. The reduction in excretion of OCPR in milk of charcoal fed group over control was 42.35, 22.30, 36.28, 34.31 and 50.0% for BHC, DDT, endosulfan, heptachlor and aldrin, respectively. It was concluded that charcoal supplementation proved as an effective adsorbent in lowering OCPR levels in milk.
