Effect of a commercial herbal feed supplement on the performance of lactating cows

Crossbred cows(12; 392.5±22.6 kg BW, 11.6±0.9 kg milk yield/d; 136±8.1 d in milk and in 2–5 parity) divided in two similar groups were fed concentrate, wheat straw and berseem fodder in 40:20:40 proportions (on DM basis) with and without supplementing anifeed a commercial herbal feed additive (Zingiber officinale 25, Adds racemosus 15, Lepidium sativum 15, Fragonella facunm 10, Ptychotis ajowan 10, Accacium sativam 10, Anacycus pyrethrum 5, Anaqua sodichlorium 9, Ficus religosa 0.5 and Myrictica officials 0.5%) @ 10g/cow/d for 90 days. The herbal feed supplement did not have any significant effect on DM intake, digestibility of nutrients, live weight changes, whereas milk and FCM yield was improved (P<0.01) without affecting its composition. It was concluded that dietary supplementation of a commercial herbal feed additive @ 10g/d to lactating crossbred cow, increased the milk yield.
