Extruded soybeans for companion animals

Abstract

The process conditions were optimized for soyabean extrusion in order to inactivate Hie antinutritional factors such as urease and trypsin inhibitors. The antinutritional factors in extruded soybean were inactivated during the extrusion process. The soybean with and without extrusion was used in pet food formulations and shelf life was established. Pet food with extruded soya bean was subjected to digestibility studies on the dogs and biochemical parameters were recorded. The data indicated that pet food was stable for one year at ambient storage conditions with extruded soybean and was well digestible by dogs with normal stool volume and odour compared to the reports about usage of soybean and its relative digestion.
