The present study was conducted to compare the nutritive value of new cowpea variety (CL-3 67) with that of existing variety (C-88). The new and existing variety contained 19.4 and 17.3% CP, 35 and 38% NFE, 46.0 and 44.2% NDF, 30.8 and 32.0% ADF, 24.4 and 26.6% cellulose, 6.4 and 5.4% lignin, respectively. The nutritive value was assessed on 12 adult male buffaloes, divided into 2 equal groups and offered respective variety of cowpeas ad lib. The daily DM intake was comparable in both the groups but the digestibility of nutrients was considerably higher in the new variety as compared to existing variety, resulting in higher nutritive value i.e. 16.8 Vs 13.1% DCP; 71.7 and 64.9% TDN, respectively. The new cowpea variety (CL-367) was superior to existing variety.
