The samples of energy and protein feed ingredients were collected from four different sources, pooled and analysed for various energy and protein fractions including effective rumen degradable protein (ERDP), Undegradable protein (UDP), digestible undegradable protein (DUP) and metabolisable protein MP using nylon bag technique as per (AFRC) methodology. Among energy feeds, the ME content was the maximum in maize (15.28 MJ/Kg DM) and the minimum in deoiled rice bran (8.67 MJ/KG DM). The ERDP content, at the rumen outflow rate of 0.05%/h was the highest for wheat bran (12.26%), followed by gram chuni (10.63%) and rice bran (10.43%). The effective MCP values for cereal seeds were equal to their respective ERDP values as they were deficient in nitrogen, whereas, the effective MCP values for gram chuni, rice bran and wheat bran were less than their respective ERDP values, since they were deficient in energy contents, though they have been classed as energy feeds. Among protein feeds, the ME content was the highest in case of maize gluten feed (16.25 MJ/Kg DM) and the lowest in case offish meal (5.52 MJ/Kg DM). The ERDP value was the highest for meat meal (50.18%) and the lowest for walnut cake (5.51%). The effective MCP contents for all the protein feeds, except for walnut cake, were lower than their respective ERDP contents. This indicated that these protein feeds were lower in fermentable energy and needed extra energy supplementation, and walnut cake appeared to make apromising source of bypass protein.
