Abstract

After completion of a feeding trial of 7 weeks, a metabolism trial of 6 days using 5 broilers from each group was conducted with diets which were without (Control- T0) or with supplementation of anyone of the three growth promoters that is antibiotics Colidox @ 50g per 100kg of feed (T1), probiotics protexin @ 10g per 100kg of feed for starter and 5g per 100kg of feed for finisher (T2) and herbal product livol @ 250g per 100kg of feed (T3). Statistically no significant differences were found among the four expenmental groups for voluntary feed intake and the digestibility of dry matter as well as different organic nutrients although higher voluntary feed intake and better digestibility was observed in all the three treatment groups in comparison to the control groups. It was concluded that supplementation of anyone of the three growth promoters (antibiotics, probiotics and herbal feed supplements) in broiler diet may provide certain benefit in voluntary intake as well as the digestibility of different nutrients.
