An in vitro experiment was conducted to assess the apparent dry matter degradability (IVADMD), true dry matter degradability (IVTDMD) and microbial biomass production of enzyme treated (ET) and urea treated (UT) paddy straw (PS) variety ADT 43. IVADMD, IVTDMD and microbial biomass production of ETPS was comparable to UTPS and was significantly (P<0.05) better than untreated paddy straw. Enzyme treatment was more efficient than enzyme supplementation as evident from increased IVTDMD. Thus, it was concluded that addition of 80 IU cellulase and 100 IU xylanase per gram DM to paddy straw and 4% urea treated paddy straw would improve its degradability.
