Effect of Detoxification of Mould infected Jowar on Growth Performance, Feed Conversion Efficiency and Carcass Traits of Broiler Chicks

Abstract

Forty eight Vencob strain broiler chicks were distributed into four treatments with 12 chicks as a replication under each treatment. The experimental feeds were prepared by incorporating crumbled normal-jowar or black jowar grains @ 2:1 proportion in broiler mash and designated as treatments T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Sole broiler mash was designated as treatment T0. Total gain in body weight up to 6th week of experimental chicks was highest in T0 (1.896 kg) followed by T1, T3 and T2 (1.752, 1.686 and 1.422 kg), respectively. Significant differences among groups were observed for feed conversion efficiency. Treatments T1 and T3 were at par for FCR which indicated that feeding of detoxified jowar had similar effect on growth as that of normal-jowar. Non significant differences were observed for dressing percentage and Meat: Bone ratio. It was thus concluded that the black Jowar can be used as feed ingredient in broiler ration after detoxification. The 2.5% ammonia treatment can serve the purpose of detoxification.
