The sawdust sweetened cake was prepared in a traditional-setting usingZ. mobolis degraded and non-degraded sawdusts with the incorporation of bone meal, sugar, salt, vitamin premix and binder used was “Akamu”. (a local liquid food produced from fermented maize grain). After which the mixtures were made into cake balls and sun-dried for 2 days and stored before used as followed: treatment A (TA)- 97.5% untreated sawdust + zero sugar + binder, treatment B (TB)- 84.5% untreated sawdust + 13% sugar + binder, treatment C (TC) - 84.5% treated sawdust + 13% sugar + zero binder, and treatment D (TD) -84.5% treated sawdust + 13% sugar + binder. Sixteen Red Sokoto goats (12 females and 4 males, about 9 months) were allotted to the diets. Each animal was fed ad libitumaccording to the assigned treatments for 42 days. The feed intake in TD (639g) and TC (580g) was significantly higher (P< 0.05) than TB (410g) and TA (390g), respectively. However, the feed conversion ratio was highest (P>0.05) on TC (2.06) and TD
(2.11) than on the other treatments. The cost/kg gain in (N) was highest (P<0.05) on TD (N543.46) followed by TC (N576.38), TB (N849.98) and TA (N873.42). The protein and energy values were affected significantly in TC and TD, over the other treatments.
