Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of addition of probiotics on feed intake, digestibility, growth and feed conversion efficiency in crossbred (Hampshire x Khasi Local) pigs. Ten weaned pigs were divided into 2 groups of 5 animals each and fed as per requirements. The animals in group1 (control) were not given any probiotics while the animals in group 2 were supplemented with probiotics (Biobloom from Zydus). Probiotics supplementation was not found to affect feed intake, however, it improved digestibility of DM, OM, CP, CF and NDF significantly (P<0.01) without affecting the digestibility of EE and ADF. The animals in supplemented group showed significantly higher (P<0.01) growth rate and better FCR. The cost of feeding per kg gain was lower in probiotics supplemented group.
