Nutritional Evaluation of Some Tree Leaves, Feeds and Fodders of Ladakh

The aim of present research was to record out the nutritional evaluation of different tree leaves, feeds and fodders of district Kargil of Ladakh (Jammu and Kashmir). Ladakh is one of the coldest region of world with an extremely harsh climate. Tree leaves/shrubs, viz. Acacia nilotica, Morus alba, Prangs pabularia, Chenopodium alvum, Salix tetragonal, Popalus tremula, Malus domestica, Elaeagnus angustifolia, Hippophae rhamnoides, Prunus armeniaca, Oxytropis microphylla, Ephedra gerardiana, Poa pratensis, Caragana vesicular and Lepidium latifolium; and hay/straws, viz. Alfa alfa hay, barley straw and wheat straw. Oil cakes and inferior grains, viz. appricot oil cake, barley grains, oat grains, wheat grains and foxtail millet. were identified and analyzed for proximate analysis, i.e; CP (Crude Protein),CF (Crude Fiber), ash, EE (Ether Extract), acid insoluble ash, calcium and phosphorus. The CP, CF, ash, EE, acid insoluble ash, calcium and phosphorus contents of the foliages varied from 8.29–25.35, 4.0–30.27.21, 2.512.50, 2.56–7.50, 1.00- 4.00, 0.49- 3.87 and 0.02–0.76%, respectively.
