Abstract

An on farm trial was conducted in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan to assess the effect of urea molasses mineral block (UMMB) supplementation on productive performance of lactating cows. Fifteen crossed cows (Bas indicus) were divided into three groups (T1, T2 and T3) consisting 5 animals each. Control group (T1) was maintained as per farmer's practices, while groups T2 and T3 were fed on concentrate mixture 1kg/3 liter of milk yield and 15 kg green fodder but T3 was provided additional urea molasses mineral block @ 300 g/day/head along with T2 for 70 days. The average milk yield (kg/day) was significantly (P<0.05) higher in group T3 (8.20 ±0.29) than in groups T2 (7.15 ±0.18) and T1 (5.40 ± 0.21). Net returns over feed (Rs/d) were higher in T3 (73.2) as compared to T2 (57.6) and T1 (44.6). It was inferred that feeding of UMMB along with balance concentrate mixture is economically beneficial for lactating cows.
