The nutritive value of the de-oiled sal seed (Shorea robusta) meal was determined by difference method with goats fed either oat hay alone or oat hay with concentrate mixture containing de-oiled sal seed meal (DSSM) or crushed maize. The energy values of various feeds were determined by conducting balance studies in the open circuit respiration calorimeter. Dry matter consumption of goats fed DSSM was significantly (P<0.01) higher and nutrient digestibilities were significantly (P<0.01) lower as compared with oat hay alone or oat hay with crushed maize. DCP and TON values of DSSM were nil and 47.2 percent, respectively. DE and ME values (Mcal/kg TDN) were 2.28 and 1.86, respectively. The low nutritive value was attributed due to poor digestibility of DSSM containing high amount of tannins.
