Three supplemental sources of sulphur, viz. sodium sulphate, DL-methionine and groundnut cake were used to establish the sulphur requirement of growing buffalo calves by ruminal degradable S:N ratio. The dietary N:S ratios used in each trial were 5:1, 10:1 and 15:1 The degradable S:N ratios with the respective sources were found to be 0.085, 0.087 and 0.095. The respective sulphur concentrations were 0.90, 1.06 and 1.21 g/kg DM from sodium sulphate, DL-methionine and GN cake. The use of degradable S:N ratio can be employed for determining the S requirements of micro-organisms as well as the host animal.
