The effect of black-liquor treatment of bagomolasses on nutrient utilization was studied with twelve yearling male buffalo calves. The animals were effered ad libitum, untreated bagomolasses (T-l), untreated bagomolasses silage (T-2) and black-liquor (4 l/kg DM) treated bagomolasses silage (T-3). In addition, each calf was fed 200 g of groundnut cake daily. Black-liquor treatment of bagomolasses followed by ensiling significanlly (p<0.05) increased DM intake in buffalo calves. The apparent DM, OM, CF and NFE digestibilities of the ration containing black-liquor treated bagomolasses silage were significantly (p<0.01) higher than untreated bagomolasses ration. A similar trend was observed when digestibilities of OM, CF and NFE of bagomolasses were calculated by difference. Black-liquor treatment followed by ensiling increased digestibilities of all the cell wall components but ensiling alone had no effect.
