Abstract

Experiments were conducted on six male cow calves, divided into two groups to study the effect of formaldehyde treated berseem hay in their diet on feed utilization. Animals of group I were given wheat bhoosa and untreated bersecm (Trifollium atexandrinum) hay, whereas, group 2 received wheat bhoosa and berseem hay treated with formaldehyde solution (10% v/v at the rate of 1% of DM). Treatment of formaldehyde significantly (p<0.05) increased DM intake bur did not affect the digestibilities of DM, EE, CF, NFE, OM and total carbohydrate. The treatment of berseem hay with formaldehyde resulted in an increased availability of N to the animals.
