Abstract

Fifteen lactating cows in early lactation with similar age, body weight and milk yield were selected from dairy farms of the local farmers and divided into three groups of five animals each. One group (T1) as control was maintained on farmer's practices. While T2 was fed concentrate mixture 1kg/3lit. milk yield and 15kg green fodder and T3 was fed same as in T2 + Microbial feed supplement @ 15g/day/head for 100 days. The average milk yield (kg/day) was significantly (P< 0.01) higher in T3 (7.84±0.21) as compared to T2 (7.62±0.11) and T1 (5.89±0.32) groups. The major milk components like fat content improved significantly (P<0.01) in microbial feed supplement fed group over control. Hence, it was concluded that feeding of microbial feed supplement along with balance diet improved milk yield and fat percent as well as reproductive performance in lactating cows.
