Energy and protein requirements of coloured plumage Japanese quails were determined during summer season in a 3×3 factorial design using 23, 25 and 27% crude protein each at 2600, 2800 and 3000 Kcal ME/kg levels of energy during starter (1–3 weeks) phase and 18, 20 and 22% crude protein levels each at 2800, 2900 and 3000 Kcal ME/kg levels of energy during finisher (4–5 weeks) phase. Highest level of protein and highest level of energy in the diet had significant (P£0.05) effect on growth rate, FI/B/D, feed conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio and calorie conversion ratio during starter and finisher phase. Nutrient digestibility was highest at highest level of protein and energy combination. The eviscerated weight and abdominal fat showed significant (P£0.05) difference at different levels of protein and energy. Based on the productive performance and nutrient digestibility it was concluded that rations with 27% CP with 3000 Kcal ME/kg during starter phase and 22% CP with 3000 Kcal ME/kg during finisher phase should be formulated.
