Abstract

Present study was carried in order to find out the beneficial effects of raw fenugreek seed supplementation on some blood biochemical profile of goats. Twelve local male goats of 8–12 months age were randomly divided into control and treatment group, six animals each. They were fed wheat straw and concentrate 60: 40 ratios to meet their nutrient requirement for maintenance. In treatment group fenugreek seed were supplemented at 3% of DMI. Blood samples were collected at 0 and 28th days of experimental feeding. There was significant (P≤0.05) increase in hemoglobin, packed cell volume (PCV), total serum protein and serum albumin compared to control. There was no significant difference in serum globulin, A: G ratio, serum cholesterol and activity of serum glutamic-oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamic pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) levels. Thus it can be concluded that fenugreek seeds @ 3% of dry matter intake can be used as feed additives to improve the blood biochemical profile of goats fed low grade roughages.
