Abstract

An experiment of 105 days duration was conducted on Gramapriya layers (120 birds divided into 2 groups) at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre Poultry Farm to study the effect of probiotics supplementation on feed intake, egg quality, production performance and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The hens were given standard layer diet either supplemented with probiotics (T2) or not given probiotics (T1). Feed intake, egg quality parameters (egg weight, yolk, albumen and shell weights and their percentages) and proximate composition of eggs were similar in both the groups. However, probiotics supplementation significantly (P<0.01) improved egg production (55.3 vs. 68.1) and FCR (2.52 vs. 2.02 kg feed consumed/dozen eggs produced). Probiotics supplementation in Gramapriya layers diets could be used to economize the cost of egg production and get better financial returns under warm and humid climate of Tripura.
