An experiment was conducted on 24 male kids of similar age (2–3 months) and body weight (6.80±0.20 kg) to elucidate the effect of selenium (Se) yeast and vitamin E supplementation on their serum minerals and vitamin profile. Kids were randomly divided into four equal groups and fed a basal diet consisting of concentrate mixture and oat straw to meet their nutrient requirements (NRC, 2007). Group I served as control (without any supplementation), whereas animals in groups II and III were supplemented with 0.3 mg Se kg-1DM as Selenium yeast, 100 mg of vitamin E as DL-α-tocopheryl acetate, respectively. Kids in group IV were supplemented with both 0.3 ppm Se as Se yeast and 100 mg of vitamin E as DL-DL-α-tocopheryl acetate. The experimental feeding lasted for 180 days during which blood samples were collected on day 0, 60, 120 and 180 days to study the serum minerals and vitamin profile of goats. There was significant (P<0.05) increase in serum Se and vitamin E concentration in supplemented groups than control. Serum calcium, phosphorus, iron, copper, zinc and manganese were similar among the four groups. Hence, supplementation of 0.3 ppm Se as Se-yeast and 100 mg of vitamin E enhanced the serum Se and vitamin E concentration without affecting other serum minerals of goats.
