One hundred twenty six samples of the mineral mixtures (branded and nonbranded) collected from different sources (dairy farms, market, feed manufacturers) from 4 tehsils of Indore district of Madhya Pradesh were analyzed for moisture, total ash, acid insoluble ash, calcium, phosphorus, copper, cobalt, zinc, iron, manganese and salt. Branded mineral mixtures (with salt) contained normal levels of moisture (0.79 to 3.08%), TA (88.03 to 95.41%) and salt (19.06 to 23.96%), high levels of Ca (28.93 to 36.13%) and AIA (2.49 to 6.58%), low level of P (6.36 to 10.57%) and trace minerals like Cu (461.93 to 703.66 ppm), Co (57.99 to 88.64 ppm), Zn (2321.83 to 6191.5 ppm), Fe (2091.33 to 4535 ppm) and Mn (345.16 to 878 ppm). Unbranded mineral mixtures (with salt) contained normal levels of moisture (0.65 to 1.16%), TA (86.41 to 93.47%) and AIA (4.08 to 4.33%), high levels of Ca (37.55 to 38.55%) and salt (35.08 to 35.42%), low levels of P (5.86 to 7.51%) and trace minerals viz., Cu (154.96 to 334.54 ppm), Co (99.78 to 142.31 ppm), Zn (1096.16 to 3251.66 ppm), Fe (1175.67 to 6535.66 ppm) and Mn (364.75 to 604.80 ppm). Branded mineral mixtures (without salt) contained normal levels of moisture (0.58 to 2.91%), TA (78.86 to 96.79%) and AIA (1.69 to 5.99), high level of Ca (33.55 to 37.94%), low level of P (6.31 to 13.58%) and trace minerals like Cu (40.37 to 329.60 ppm), Co (30.01 to 183.23 ppm), Zn (1331.00 to 3520.80 ppm), Fe (2066.66 to 12848.30 ppm) and Mn (37.02 to 497.50 ppm). Unbranded mineral mixtures (without salt) contained normal levels of moisture (0.28 to 1.74%), TA (92.55 to 97.19%), high levels of Ca (27.66 to 38.79%) and AIA (3.20 to 13.48%), low levels of P (0.66 to 10.57%) and trace minerals like Cu (52.12 to 618.90 ppm), Co (86.02 to 131.06 ppm), Zn (215.33 to 4740.66 ppm), Fe (1708.33 to 5845.5 ppm) and Mn (47.05 to 769.59 ppm). As compared to BIS standard, 80% unbranded dairy mineral mixtures (without salt) were adulterated with salt (2.20 to 11.77%) and AIA.
