Abstract

A study was conducted to observe the effect of supplementing rumen protected lysine and methionine on nutrient utilization and blood biochemical parameters in growing Hariana heifers. Eighteen heifers were randomly distributed into 3 groups of 6 animals each based on body weight. The animals in control group (C) were fed rations to meet their requirements while rumen protected methionine (RPM) and rumen protected lysine (RPL) were also supplemented @ 1 + 5 g and 2 + 10 g/d/animal in group T1 and T2, respectively. Intakes of DM, CP and TDN were similar in three groups. Digestibility of nutrients was also similar in 3 groups while average daily gain was found to be better (P<0.05) in supplemented groups. Supplementation of protected amino acids did not affect levels of total plasma protein, albumin, immunoglobulin and amino acid transferases, however, concentration of BUN and creatinine was lower (P<0.05) in group T1 compared to C and T2.
