A study was conducted on 15 multiparous crossbred cows (2nd to 4th lactation) divided in 3 groups of 5 animals each to find out the effects of flaxseed supplementation on milk production and nutrient utilization for a period of 120 days. Animals were fed rations consisting of chaffed wheat straw, chopped green oats fodder and concentrate mixture and supplemented with whole flaxseed (WFS), crushed flaxseed (CFS) and formaldehyde treated flaxseed (FOFS). DM intake and digestibility of nutrients were similar in all the groups. Milk yield (kg/d) increased in CFS (13.88) supplemented group than WFS (12.64) and FOFS (12.05) groups. FCM yield was also significantly (P<0.05) higher in CFS (13.72 kg/d) than WFS (11.75 kg/d) group. There was overall improvement in PUFA content in all the treatment groups.
