The samples of 9 varieties of soybean straw (JS-336, NRC 12, JS 90–41, NRC 7, NRC 2, Hardee, JS 80–21, NRC 37 and NRC 86–47) were collected from National Research Centre for Soybean, Indore, Madhya Pradesh for estimating chemical composition. The average values of DM, CP, EE, CF, NFE, total ash and acid insoluble ash were found to be 93.69±0.2, 5.66±0.18, 0.89±0.03, 42.07±0.79, 44.78±0.72, 6.30±0.21 and 0.40±0.05% on DM basis respectively. The average cell content, NDF, ADF, hemi-cellulose, cellulose and lignin were 31.72±0.94, 68.06±0.93, 51.79±0.68, 16.33±0.62, 8.92±0.52 and 44.95±0.75%, respectively. The concentration of Ca, P, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and Co was 1.03±0.02%, 0.21±0.01%, 585.12±25.02 ppm, 16.03±0.96 ppm, 26.78±10.27 ppm, 76.14±4.14 ppm and 1.07±0.56 ppm, respectively. Results indicated that lignin content was very high in all varieties of soybean straw, therefore, it may be used in very limited amount in the ration of dairy animals.
