Abstract

The utilisation of Kodo (Paspalum scorbiculatum) grains in place of maize grains in chick diets in various combinations with groundnut cake (GN) and soyabean meal (SBM) were tested on male white Leghorn Babcock 8-12 day old chicks with regard to their growth, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio (PER). Methionine (M) and/or lysine (L) (Expt.-I) in addition to threonine (TH) (Expt. If.) and tryptophane (TR) (Expt. Ill) were also added in various diets suitably. It was observed that Kodo-GN diets were at par with maize-GN diets when both were supplemented either with 5% fishmeal (FM)or 0.2% each of L and M. Similarly when Kodo-GN and maize-GN diets were supplemented with 0.3%, L, 0.33% M, 0.1% TH and 0.1% TR the performance of the clucks was at par. Kodo-GN diets supplemented with amino acids were not limiting in energy. When SBM was used either with Kodo or maize, the performance was not different, The results indicated that Kodo-GN diet was deficient in L and M, The deficiency of TH and TR was not clearly established.
