Abstract

Chemical composition of Leucaena leucocephala (Subabul) seeds of four varieties (Kerala, K-8, K-28 and K-67) was determined. The seeds were high in CP (28.5-29.1%) and EE (6.5-7.3%).

The nutritive value of L. leucocephala seeds, determined in crossbred (Jersey x Kankrej F1) animals by difference method, was 19.64% DCP and 68.41% TDN on DM basis. N, P and Ca balances were positive for all the animals. The seeds are good potential source of feed ingredient because of its nutritional quality.
