Abstract

Ten male Black Bengal x Beelal kids of 3 months age were divided into 2 equal groups and fed on Subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) hay ad lib and bcrseem (Trifolium alexendrinum) hay as sole feed respectively upto 14 months of age. Weekly observations on libido, semen characteristics and blood plasma LH and testosterone levels were recorded from the age of 11 months to 14 months. Subabul fed group started donating semen earlier and a total of 32 semen ejaculates were obtained from them in comparison to only five ejaculates from the berseem fed group. Blood plasma LH and testosterone started elevating from 12 months of age onwards in both the groups but relatively higher in subabul fed groups during 13-14 months. Subabul feeding had no adverse effect on their reproductive parameters.
