Thirty five commonly grown leguminous forages of West Bengal were collected at different stages of growth and were analysed for CP and various fibre constituents. The forages included Indian vetch (Lathy rm sativa), bersecra (Trifolium alexandrium), white senji (Meliolotus paryiflora), stylo (Stylosanthes sp), siratro (Macroptilium atropurpureum), lucerne (Medicago sativa), guar (Cymopsis tetragonoloba), cowpea (Vigna sinensis), centra (Centrosema pubescens), dew grass (Phaseolus aconilifolius), soya (Glycine javanka) and white clover (Trifolium repens), etc. The results indicated that Indian vetch contained highest amount of CP. The berseem cut at 63 days contained comparatively low amounts of cellulose, lignin and silica. It was also observed that plants having higher percentage of CP, contained low hemicellulose content. The results of analysis of various fibrous constituents of these leguminous fodders are also given.
