Abstract

About 50 per cent maize grains of the control diet consisting of maize-groundnut cake (MG) was replaced with de-oiled rice-polish (DRP) + lard (L) or L alone to determine the efficiency and energy utilization in 3 replicates of 4 male WLH Babcock chicks in each group from the age of 1 to 3 weeks. Body weight gain on MG and DRP diets was similar in summer and winter but significantly (< 0.001) superior to L diet. The ME consumed was almost similar in three diets both in winter and summer, except that the chicks consumed significantly (< 0.001) more ME in winter on L diet. The ME required for maintenance differed both in between the seasons and the diets. It was indicated that about 50 per cent maize of the conventional growers mash could be replaced with DRP without affecting growth.
