Twelve cross bred heifers having similar body weights were fed 3 fodder sorghum varieties, SU 45, SU 52 and HC 136, harvested at 50% flowering. The digestibility coefficients of DM, CP, CF and NFE were 52.8, 52,8, 59.9 and 50.9; 59.0, 57.2, 67.5 and 59.2, and 51.9, 49.8, 56.6 and 52.6 for the SU 45, SU 52 and HC 136, respectively. Intakes of DM, TDN and DCP were higher on SU 52 than on the other two varieties. Nitrogen retained was 9.71, 12.73 and 6.46 g respectively for SU 45, SU 52 and HC 136 varieties. Though the intakes of feed nutrients, digestibility, N retention and weight gains were better on the two SU varieties than the national check, variety SU 52 was superior to the other two.
