Abstract

Fresh chilowne (Schima wallichii) leaves were fed ad libitum as sole feed to 4 adult Sikkimese goats (17.3 to 26.4 kg). The daily voluntary DM intake was 17.30 g per kg body weight showing poor palatability. Chilowne leaves contained 5.7 per cent DCP, 54.91 per cent TDN and 41.87 per cent SE on DM basis. Marginal negative balances of N and P only indicated that Chilowne leaves need to be supplemented with other feeds to ensure sufficient intake of DM and other nutrients even to meet the maintenance needs of goats.
