Abstract

Twelve crossbred (Jersey x Hariana) calves (6 months; 76 kg) randomly divided into 3 equal groups were fed on a basal diet consisting of concentrate mixture, (crushed maize 30 parts, deoiled groundnut cake 32 parts, wheat bran 20 parts, crushed milo 15 parts, mineral mixture 2 parts, salt 1 part, vitamin AD3 added @ 30g/100 kg concentrate mixture) paddy straw, and paragrass. Paragrass was replaced by water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) at the level of 0 (T1), 50 per cent (T2) and 100 per cent (T3). The average body weight gains in 194 d were 343, 342 and 359 g/d in T1 T2 and T3 respectively.
