Abstract

Plant parts of tweive cultivars of subabiil (Leucaena leucocephala) were analysed for their cell wall constituents and mineral contents. The per cent NDF in leaves ranged from 17.7 in Hisar cultivar to 25.8 in Peru-11 cultivar, whereas ADF content was lowest in K-8 cultivar. Similarly the leaves of Hawaiian common and K-8 contained lowest cellulose content (S.8 per cent). Lignin content was similar in different cultivars. Ca (0.5-2.1 per cent), Fe (175-375 ppm) and Cu (15-60 ppm) contents in leaves of different cultivars were highly variable, whereas P, S, Zn and Mn contents were comparatively consistent. Seeds contained lower P and higher S contents than in leaves.
