Abstract

Thirtytwo Telangana local goats (3m, 11.37 kg) were divided into 4 equal groups and fed on diets with varied roughage to concentrate ratio, viz., 70 : 30 (T1), 50 : 50 (T2) 30 :70 (T3) and 10 : 90 (T4) under stall fed conditions upto 24 kg slaughter weight. The goats on high concentrate diets grew significantly (P < 0.01) faster, consumed less DM and were more efficient in utilizing the DM than those on other diets. Digestibility of DM, CP, EE and CP significantly (P < 0.01) decreased with proportionate increase in the roughage portion of the diet. On all the diets, goats were on positive N, Ca and P balances and retentions increased significantly (P < 0.01) with increase in the con-centrate content of the diet. Diet did not produce any significant effect on dressing percentage percentage proportion of lean bone and fat bone meat ratio and ratio of edible to non-edible carcass.
