Urinary nitrogen (UNE) and carbon excretions (UCE) during fasting were estimated in adult buffaloes maintained earlier on wheat straw hased maintenance ration.
Average UNE and UCE varied from 13.64±3.17 to 23.10±3.39 and 7.0"±1.64 to 11.44 ±1.46 g/d from day 1 to day 5, respectively. No significant differences among the periods of fasting were, however, observed. A significant (P<0.01) correlation (r = 0.84) was obtained between UNE and UCE and their ratio was 2 : 1. UNE and UCE are suggestive of the status of the body reserves.
