Twelve types of paddy straw silages were prepared, viz., (1) control, (2) Urea 1.5 per cent, (3) cattle dung 30 per cent (CD30), (4) cattle dung 40 per cent (CD40), (S) cattle dung 30 per cent + 1 per cent urea (CD30U), (6) cattle dung 40 per cent + 1 per cent urea (CD40U), (7) poultry droppings 30 per cent (PD30), (8) poultry droppings 40 per cent (PD40), (9) rumen digcsta 40 per cent (RD40), (10) rumen digesta 50 per cent (RD50), (11) horse dung 30 per cent (HD30) and (12) horse dung 40 per cent (HD40) on laboratory scale (5 kg each) in black polythene bags. The material was ensiled at 60 per cent moisture level. Each treatment was prepared in triplicate and ensiled for 45, 62 and 85 d, Among all silages CD40, PD40 and RD50 silages at 45d ensiling period showed optimum fermentation. As the ensiling period increased DM content also increased. There was significant (P<0.01) difference among proximate principles and fermentative characteristics due to treatment and ensiling period.
